Signal Arts Centre Programme of Events
Culture Night Bray,
Friday 24th September 2010
Culture night takes place every year across Ireland welcoming people of all ages for a taste of free culture for one night. Wicklow County has been invited to take part this year. Signal Arts Centre plans to make the Bray contribution a big event which involves the community as a whole. Signal Arts Centre is planning a few events to coincide with the evening. As part of our ethos of engaging the community we would like to invite schools and organisations to participate with us in the 'Fleet of Dreams' ceremony. This will entail hundreds of floating lanterns being placed in the Dargle to float down the river. The ceremony will take place at dusk and should be a visually beautiful event.

Artist Talk by Róisín Verdon
Róisín Verdon will give a talk about her work 'Through the Looking Glass' which will be on exhibition in Signal Arts Centre. Verdon graduated from I.A.D.T in 2008 with a BA (Hons) in Visual Arts Practice. She uses movies as her source material and is concerned with the law of reflection and in particular Specular Reflection. Specular reflection is where the angle at which the wave is incident on the surface equals the angle at which it is reflected. Mirrors are exhibitors of specular reflections, basically, what you see is what you get! Yet the surface is only partially representational. The actor is playing a character yet the person behind the character is present also. At that one moment where the actor is looking in the mirror all are contemporary to the moment. This reminds her of the Ego, the false self which we present to the world as a statement of who we are, versus the true self and the actual being within.
Time: 7pm
Location: Signal Arts Centre, 1 Albert Avenue, Bray
