From Tuesday 1st March to Saturday 12th March 2005

Signal Arts Centre are delighted to present an exhibition of recent paintings by award winning artist Brigitte McGovern.

Brigitte was born and raised in Hamburg, studied graphic design at the College of Art and Design in Hamburg. She has been living and working in Ireland since 1979. Since 1992 Brigitte has been pursuing an interest in counselling and psychotherapy.

In 2003 she was awarded the Douglas Hyde Gold Medal at the Oireachtais Exhibition for her painting 'I recognise the slope of your shoulder.'

The aim of her paintings is to tell a story about the object or piece of clothing, exploring the relationship on and beyond the canvas, in other words the seen and the unseen, the real and the abstract. She says, 'I would like to invite the observer to speculate, for instance, about the people who were or still wearing the clothes, to think of the missing pieces. My work is about loss, the unseen, and piecing things together.'

Opening Reception: Thursday 3rd March 7-9pm
