'From Here to There: Reconciling Process and Truth'
Paintings and Drawings by Dave Flynn
From Tuesday 2nd February to Sunday 14th February 2010
Signal Arts Centre is proud to present this collection of work by Dave Flynn. Dave is a painter and writer, living and working in Bray, County Wicklow. He also teaches art, art history and art workshops. He is a Fine Arts graduate from the Byam Shaw School of Art, London.
Most recently, he completed a portrait commission for UCD, to be unveiled in spring 2010. His work was accepted for the inaugural DAVY Portrait Awards Exhibition and shown at the Naughton Gallery, Belfast 2008 and Farmleigh House, Dublin 2009. He collaborated on 'Mnemonic Gaps', a multimedia piece for the 'Public Gesture' show, at the LAB, Dublin, June 2009. He was an invited painter to the 'Ways of Looking - Ways of Seeing' show, Phoenix Park Gallery, March 2009. He exhibited at the Signal Arts Centre Group Show, July 2008. His work was previously accepted for the Royal Academy of Art Summer Show.
Dave's work is primarily representational: landscape, figure, portrait, still life. It also includes narrative and abstract forms. He is currently working in oil paint, pencil, charcoal and pastel.
This exhibition aims to reveal the dignity and beauty of the subject or the concept, and to reconcile the artistic process with an honest appraisal of the world around him. Truth is fundamental. An important aspect in the work is to give value to mark making, not only as a means to an end, but also as an integral part of the finished work, visible process and battle scars included.
The exhibition will be opened by Brendan Purcell
Opening Reception: Friday 5th February 7-9pm
