From Tuesday 7th December to Saturday 18th December 2004
Signal Arts Centre is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by Dublin based artist, Jacinta O’Reilly.
Jacinta graduated from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design & Technology in 2003, specialising in printmaking.
Jacinta says: 'The work in this exhibition for me is essentially drawing with paint, wax, charcoal, pastels and pencil on the theme of interconnectedness and how one weaves this into their life. Having a background in sculpture I was interested in carving into the work and in that sense revealing layers underneath. I enjoyed the process of combining materials intuitively and through layering charcoal on top of materials I felt depth was added to the work. Included also is the process of taking rubbings of a precious found object'.
The works of artists, Ian McKeever and Georgina O'Keefe, influence Jacinta's work, both of whom, by repeating certain patterns, forms and images; constantly rephrasing them to ever new variations and combinations may be seen as a mark of their efforts to render visible the divine harmony which embraces and connects all beings.
Jacinta says 'My work is very much about a search for a connection and although this seems to evade one at times, a strong belief that everything in life is essentially related. This body of work was completed during a six-month residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre where I felt totally immersed in nature; it was observing the delicate changing of the seasons that strongly influenced these works on paper. I believe that nature supplies the materials and the artist shapes them. Although these works are very different from one another, to me there is a strong cohesion as each in its own particular way represents a journey and a passage in time.'
Opening Reception: Thursday 9th December 7-9pm
