From Tuesday 10th April to Saturday 28th April 2001
Signal Arts Centre is pleased to present new paintings by Matthew Cave from 10th to 28th April. This is Matthew's first solo exhibition and he has called it 'The End of the Beginning'. He referred to the exhibition by saying 'It marks the end of a varied, experimental approach to painting and the beginning of a more focused methodology and attitude to my work'.
Matthew describes himself as a colourist and in the past his paintings have been mainly abstract and geometrical. Although he now works in a figurative style, Matthews's use of colour and form still has a strong abstract and geometrical quality. His paintings have a definite air of detachment, of cold observation, like a fleeting thought held in freeze frame.
Matthew Cave was born in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. He attended Elizabeth College there in 1981. Later he moved to the UK and attended Exeter College of Art and Design. Moving to Ireland in 1994 he spent four years at the Portland Row Art College in Dublin. Group exhibitions include the Irish Life Mall, Temple Bar Galleries and West Cork Arts Gallery.
Opening Reception: Thursday 12th April 7-9pm
