From Tuesday 28th March to Saturday 8th April 2006

Signal Arts are pleased to present 'Vital Illusions' an exhibition of photography by Rhoda Cunningham.

Rhoda graduated in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design in the 1970's. She painted murals both commercially and privately for several years before taking a break to go travelling with her family. During this time she developed an interest in photography as a fine art. She graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology with a BA in Photography in 2002. Since then she has completed a number of commissions in four group shows.

In April 2004 Rhoda exhibited with stained glass artist, Tricia Cunningham, in the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, Co.Wicklow. This was one of the most successful exhibitions held at the Courthouse that year.

Rhoda works with several images to build up montages to create evocative pieces. Her fine art background is very evident in her work, which is very emotive.

"'Vital Illusions' are images of photographic surrealism that stretch the imagination to open new windows of perception. Memory and imagination are intrinsic in the participation of the viewer. Reality and fantasy cross when perception is translated from expression of the mind into form. The spectator is then presented with the images where their own participation chooses where reality ends and fantasy begins. Each image stands on its own as a unique piece with overall theme connecting all the images." Rhoda Cunningham, March 2006.

Opening Reception: Thursday 30th March 7-9pm
