From Tuesday 25th May to Saturday 5th June 2004
Signal Arts Centre is showing the first solo show by artist Ronan Smith.
Ronan, a recent graduate from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology, has exhibited in the group exhibition 'Platform'- Concourse Gallery, Dun Laoghaire in December 2003 and 'Iontas' – small works exhibition in Limerick and Sligo during September 2003.
Ronan's work consists of acrylic drawings on newsprint. He says, 'The images are figurative and are of a floral authority. They describe various original designs and each drawing's characteristic is ingenuously distinct from the others.' The work is presented as, 'designs for plates', they are seen as a stage of process in the production of an 'Art/Craft Object'.
The work attempts to question the formulised aesthetics of decoration through observation.
Opening Reception: Thursday 27th May 7-9pm
