'A Song of Parting'

Sculptures and Paintings by Alannah Robins

Alannah Robin's work

From Tuesday 13th April to Sunday 25th April 2010

Signal Arts Centre is pleased to present this collection of work by artist Alannah Robins. Alannah received a BA Degree in Fine Art Sculpture from the National College of Art and Design. Her work features in the collections of Galway County Council and the Office of Public Works, Galway. In 2008 she won the Award of Excellence for her exhibition, ‘Outside: Insight, Sculpture in the Gardens’ and in 2009 completed a commission for the Waterford Institute of Technology.

In her art practice she revolves around a cluster of themes, predominantly notions of commonality versus separateness, disintegration versus coagulation and fragility versus strength. She is drawn to the exploration of these themes within the wider contexts of inherited identity, sexuality and domesticity.

In this body of work she has taken elements from nature and juxtaposed them with domestic images. We are invited to look again, as our perceptions of these familiar subjects are challenged. We come across the words of a song, wrapped around beach stones, an embroidered photograph, garden birds and toy soldiers. Paintings of the figure underwater touch on the subconscious and disintegration of self. These images populate each other’s environments in a way which is unexpected and thought provoking.

The Exhibition will be opened by Conor Bowman, Writer and Barrister

Opening Reception: Friday 16th April 6.30-8.30pm
