From Tuesday 11th April to Saturday 22nd April 2006

Signal Arts Centre is delighted to present an exhibition of paintings by artist James O'Dowd.

Psychoanalysis and the shadowy chambers of the mind have always influenced the art of James O'Dowd, and the work in this exhibition is no exception. Sometimes peaceful, sometimes dark and apocalyptic, James has produced a body of cityscape-based paintings that explore the conflicts within the soul of modern man. Using vast swathes of deep blue hue next to bright reds and yellows, unsettling perspective, and vigorous brush strokes contrasting with areas of flat colour, he attempts to capture man's paradoxical feelings of alienation and loneliness in a world which he as a member of society has helped create.

James graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 1997 with a B.A. in Art & Design (Painting and Photography). He has previously exhibited in Limerick and Wolverhampton and recently in Gorey and Wexford town. Originally from Limerick, James has been based in Dublin for the past three years and much of the work in this exhibition has been influenced by the streetscapes of the capital.

Opening Reception: Thursday 13th April 7-9pm
